What did you use as your bathroom tiling? Majorly, most people line their bathroom flooring using ceramic tiles and vinyl, but have you ever been considering terrazzo flooring in your bathroom?
Using terrazzo as your bathroom flooring is not actually a new idea since you might have been familiar with marble flooring in more elegant housing or building such as luxurious hotels or offices, et cetera. Terrazzo is a flooring material made out of recycled marbles cementized with chunks of quartz, limestone, sand, glass, mother of pearls, abalone shells, and other substances that are compatible to add this mixture. This is a classic flooring materials that had been used as marble substitute since the world’s economy depression where in the middle of ongoing project, Venetian workers unify the leftover chunks of marbles to create recycle products out of it to cover the financial defisit while still finishing the project. Since then, terrazzo had been popular as the cheaper and greener substitute of marble floorings.
Since it’s quite the same as marble, terrazzo has the same luxurious fashion as marble, only with extra benefit: cheaper installation cost. The maintenance needed by this flooring is as the same as marble flooring’s maintenance. It is long lasting and can be refinished repeatedly and easily, but always put in mind that you may not install terrazzo all by yourself. For luxurious materials, always get a professional to treat it luxuriously.
If you’re worried that your terrazzo might be slippery in bathroom, you can have your terrazzo unpolished since unpolished terrazzo has rougher finish rather than the smooth, polished one. You can also ask your contractor to seal the terrazzo with anti-slip compounds on the surface. Or simply, you can place matts, rugs, or carpets on your bathroom where you can dry your wet feet before stepping into floors.
Other than floorings, you might want to consider other finish with terrazzo in your bathroom. Sink table and vanities can be great when you finish it entirely in this material; just like your marble table, but only much cooler! Basin sink can also be made using terrazzo, but, different from your typical marble, it will not be too cold to touch. You can also have your soap and conditioner case made out of this material to finish your stylish bathroom.
In other materials, you can make your bath tub with terrazzo rather than ceramics, marble, or plastic. This will give you luxurious finish because terrazzo has very beautiful grainy surface but with smooth texture and is not cold nor will get hot; rather, it will adjust your temperature needs so you won’t have to feel cold on your first step on the bathroom. If you don’t have bath tub, you can use terrazzo as your shower bases. Terrazzo is a great solution for your sanitary ware, and is also vintage and retro, cool and modest, and green for it’s a recycled material! If you want to contribute in the world’s green act but still want to look luxurious, you can try having terrazzo, starting from your bathroom!
